Peer Minds

Join the Peer Mentor Interest List

Supportive mentors can help young people build confidence, explore their goals, and feel more connected to their communities.

By becoming a Peer Mentor, you can leverage your own journey, cultural understanding, and empathy to ensure another young person doesn’t have to walk that path alone.

Lived experience can be a valuable foundation for mentorship. Effective mentors must also demonstrate reliability, self-awareness, cultural humility, healthy boundaries, and a willingness to complete training.

As a Peer Mentor, you transition from someone who understands the struggle to a direct agent of change. You will:

  • Provide a Judgment-Free Space: Offer one-on-one or group peer support where youth can express their fears without backlash.

  • Break Generations of Stigma: Bridge the gap between heritage, beliefs, and modern mental wellness.

  • Cultivate Resilience: Empower your mentee to build practical coping skills, emotional confidence, and community connection.

Our peer mentors are empathetic leaders who respect cultural nuances. To apply, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Background: Identify with or have a deep, lived understanding of the MENASA community's unique cultural and familial dynamics.

  • Commitment: Ability to commit to a minimum of 4–6 months of consistent engagement with your assigned mentee.

  • Qualities: Strong active listening skills, high emotional intelligence, and an open mind.

Because we serve youth and work in the mental wellness space, we guide all potential mentors through a rigorous, supportive preparation pipeline:

1. Online Application: Takes 15 minutes. Submit your details through our secure application portal. Share your background, your experiences, and why this mission matters to you.

2. Discovery Interview: 20-minute conversation. Speak with a member of our leadership team to discuss your goals, assess your readiness, and ensure alignment with our values.

3. Screening & Reference Check: Safety standard. To protect the youth in our programs, we complete standard background checks and character reference verifications.

4. Peer Support Training: Comprehensive preparation. Complete our specialized training curriculum covering active listening, trauma-informed care, setting healthy boundaries, and crisis intervention protocols.

5. Thoughtful Matching: Selected mentors and mentees will be matched based on program eligibility, goals, preferences, and available capacity.

Our team thoughtfully pairs you with a mentee based on shared experiences, goals, and needs. Your mentorship journey officially begins

  • Professional Training: Selected mentors will receive information about required training before participating. Training details and completion requirements will be confirmed before the pilot begins.

  • Leadership Development: Build invaluable interpersonal and communication skills highly regarded by universities and employers.

  • A Network of Advocates: Join a close-knit, passionate community of MENASA changemakers and professionals.

  • Ongoing Support: You are never alone. Our leadership team provides continuous check-ins, supervision, and resources throughout your match.
